Tech:Storage Media !!! How much do you need

The digital storage media capacity is a topic of great research. Long back when i first heard of Compact Disc, i though wow!!! now we could get over from the winchester disc which were unreliable and prone to quick damage(moisture, heat etc). A job in the IT sector made me fascinated with electronic gadgets and information about tech stuffs. Came to know about the DVD's. Bye joe!!! 4 GB's of data on a single layer disc. Ufffffffffffffffffffffff.
Months back i brought a Compact Flash , know what its capacity is 1GB. Although now its outdated as the same company (www.sandisk.c0m) is comming with 4GB(http://sandisk.com/retail/ext3-cf.asp)( I am bugged!!!! with such rapid advancements). Not to say that USB Flash drives have also gone to 2GB (leaving me with a 512MB:))!!!.
Now this Blue-Ray disc(http://www.blu-ray.com/info/), which in future will replace the DVD's are hot. These use a blue-violet laser (405nm) that has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm for DVD), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB.
But then do we need these huge amount of storage?? !!!I like keeping huge data copied on CD's for future use. But someday my kids or rather wife will obviously throw them as unused junk:)).
